US Solar Announces Energization of Lowry Community Solar Projects in Aurora with Ribbon Cutting Celebration
The six community solar gardens, constructed within landfill buffer zone, represent one of
the largest portfolios of donated community solar subscriptions in the nation and will lower
energy costs for thousands of Coloradans.
Aurora, CO. – On June 3, 2026, US Solar, along with Governor Jared Polis, local leaders, and community nonprofits Energy Outreach Colorado and Bridge House, celebrated the ribbon cutting and energization of the Lowry Community Solar Projects.
“The Lowry Community Solar Projects make it easier and more affordable for Coloradans to access solar energy production. Community solar — one of the least expensive energy sources — is helping Coloradans save money on energy bills and build out clean energy resources that protect clean air and provide capacity as our economy and energy needs grow,” said Governor Jared Polis.
Located within Lowry Landfill Superfund buffer land, the sites consist of six distinct community solar projects representing 40 megawatts DC (30MWac) — or enough energy to power over 8,000 homes. Approximately 5,000 income-qualified Colorado households will receive donated subscriptions to the Lowry projects, helping to lower their energy costs while advancing Colorado’s clean energy goals. Those households can expect to save approximately $750 per year.
Community Solar is a program that allows residents and businesses to take part in the renewable energy transition without installing panels on their roofs. Participants who subscribe to a community solar project receive bill credit savings on their electric bill.
“The Lowry projects are monumental not just for the clean energy they deliver, but for what they mean to the families and communities they serve” said Reed Richerson, President of US Solar. “For thousands of households, saving hundreds of dollars a year on electricity can make a real difference when it comes to covering groceries, rent and other essentials. We’re proud to be delivering meaningful, everyday savings to everyday people while building a more resilient energy future.
Energy Outreach Colorado, a nonprofit organization that provides energy assistance and resources to Coloradans in need, has partnered with US Solar to connect those households with the energy savings of community solar.
“We are thrilled to partner on the Lowry Community Solar Projects with US Solar, furthering our mission to create affordable energy solutions for Coloradans. Equitable access to clean, affordable energy is critical to our state and its residents,” shared Energy Outreach Colorado CEO Jennifer Gremmert.
The community benefits of the projects extend beyond direct subscriber savings. US Solar is also providing a $500,000 donation to nonprofit Bridge House, including its Ready to Work program, which is dedicated to providing paid employment, housing, and individualized case management support to adults experiencing homelessness. The donation, which will be used in part to establish a clean energy workforce development program, was presented to the Ready to Work team at the Lowry Community Solar Projects celebration.
US Solar is building on the success of the Lowry Community Solar Projects with additional community solar and energy storage projects planned in Colorado. These forthcoming sites will be strategically located on the distribution grid so they can provide both system and subscriber bill savings.
Some additional facts about the Lowry Community Solar Projects:
Constructed within Lowry Landfill Superfund buffer land, the projects together total 68,472 solar modules covering 216 acres.
With a cumulative capacity of 40MWdc, the sites will generate enough energy to power approximately 8,076 homes annually.
All 6 of the Lowry Community Solar sites have been seeded with native pollinator habitat, which supports critical pollinators like butterflies, bees, and birds.
Altogether, the Lowry projects will generate approximately $150,000 in local tax revenue annually.
